About NeuroStories

NeuroStories is an app that creates personalized, illustrated and narrated stories starring your child and family as cartoons — to handle everyday challenges like tantrums, fears, routines and sleep, or to go on a bedtime adventure.

What the app does

  • A challenge: for something your child finds hard. There are 10 topics (feelings, routines, social skills, independence, sensory, transitions, fears, school, family and sleep) with dozens of ready-made situations, or you can describe your own. The story ends by showing how to handle it.
  • An adventure: a free mode to play and imagine, with your child as the hero.
  • Your family as cartoons: from a photo, your child and up to five family members (pets included) become characters in the story.
  • Every page has its own illustration and a warm narrating voice, with optional music and sound effects, adjustable volume and speed, and PDF download.

It works in English and Spanish, on iPhone, iPad and Android. You can start for free.

Why we built it

NeuroStories began as a way to create social stories for autistic children: short stories that prepare a child for a new or difficult situation by showing, step by step, what will happen and how to handle it. Carol Gray began developing the method in 1989.

The same idea — seeing yourself get through the challenge — helps any child facing a meltdown, a fear or a change. That is why the app is now for every family, while still looking after neurodivergent kids with predictable stories and gentle, adjustable sound.

Who is behind it

NeuroStories is an independent project by Vicente San Silvestre, who designs and builds the app and this website, reviews every change to the stories, privacy and this page, and reads the messages sent to hello@neurostories.net.

How each story is made

  1. You type or dictate the situation or the adventure idea.
  2. A language model writes the story with your child's name, age and interests, and checks that it is safe for a child.
  3. The family cartoons and one illustration per page are drawn.
  4. A voice narrates the story. It is ready in about a minute.

“A challenge” stories are inspired by social stories and positive parenting. The AI providers involved in each step are listed in the privacy policy.

What NeuroStories is not

It is a supportive family tool, not therapy, and it does not replace advice from a health or psychology professional. If you are worried about your child's development or wellbeing, talk to their pediatrician or a specialist.

How we look after your family

  • Before any data is sent, the app explains what is sent, to whom and why, and asks for your permission.
  • Photos are only used to draw the cartoons. We do no facial recognition and do not use your data to train AI models.
  • We never sell data, and the app has no ads.
  • You can delete your account and all its data at any time (here is how).
